Contact your Representative to thank them for the 2050 Roadmap and urge them to go further

The 2020 Roadmap bill provided a necessary yet insufficient step forward toward taking action against climate change in Massachusetts. With the goal of “net-zero” emissions by 2050 and a focus on planning rather than immediate action, this bill does not meet the urgency of the climate crisis that we have known about for decades. Emailing your Representative will let them know that their constituents support climate action, and demand leadership for the steps we must take statewide.

Dear [Representative]

I am writing to thank you for your vote in favor of the 2050 Roadmap bill. It laid a valuable framework for the transition of the commonwealth to a net zero-emission state.

I am also writing to convey the urgency of taking even further action in the next legislative session. Climate change is already causing more extreme weather events, crop failures, and ecosystem failures.

According to the 2018 UN IPCC report, we need to take drastic action before 2030 in order to mitigate the lasting effects of climate change for current and future generations. Therefore, a goal of net-zero emissions by 2050 is insufficient.

The people of the Commonwealth overwhelmingly support taking action against climate change, and look to our state legislators to protect us from harm.

We ask that you do whatever you can to support and pass a bill that will create a plan to bring Massachusetts to 100% renewable energy by 2035, as well as support other legislation that will speed up the timeline to a zero-emission Massachusetts.

Thank you for your leadership

Respectfully,
